SENIORS SWEEP AWARDS

It was a pretty sure bet on Tuesday, Sept. 27 at the Ledges in St George that the forward tee players would sweep all the payoff positions since only one player played from the middle tees. Gary Denhalter led the charge of the “gold” with a nice round of 40-42-82 to beat out Dick Swayne (84) and Ben Bishop (84) for medalist honors. These runner-ups were rewarded at the end of the day as Bishop led the low net rounds with 67 and Swayne got second just one shot back at 68. Tom Durenberger (87 and net 71) placed third while Jim Anderson (98) got the 4th spot. Tim “Deep Driver” Bergstrom (86 and net 75) placed fifth. Bergstrom had the putt of the day on the par five 7th hole. His third shot rolled well past the cup some 68 feet. But “Timmy the Touch” Bergstrom rolled it down the slope masterfully dropping it in the jar for a “sweet” birdie. Durenberger, his playing opponent, putted on the hole from 26 feet away with a two foot right to left break and dropped it in for a B-I-L-T.

TOMSIC WINS LAST SUMMER EVENT

The MMGA finished their Mesquite summer over-seed travels on Thursday, Sept. 29. After five weeks of traveling to St George it was evident at Coral Canyon on Thursday that enough was enough. Only 10 players teed it up and at the end of the day Rory Tomsic 43-39-82 won medalist beating out two of his playing partners Bill Irace (83) and Neil Hendricks (84). Hendricks got even with Irace’s second place gross finish when he won first place low net with 71. Irace had to settle for second low net and Dick Swayne (72) finished third. The group is probably looking forward to next week when they come home and play both Tuesday and Thursday at the Canyons golf course.

The next scheduled play is Thursday, Oct 6 at the Canyons at 8 a.m. Always check your signup sheets for any corrected times or places. Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 702-346-5636. Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf .com.
