RUNDLE WINS MEDALIST – GOLD TEES SWEEP NETS

Now that the summer FXC net tournament is done and the Mesquite courses are closed for over seeding the group began their out of town play at Sky Mountain. Hal Rundle shot 43-40-83 to win low gross over Dick Swayne and Ed Hoepfner’s 86.

The seniors swept all five net places. Swayne was rewarded with a net 69 which won low net by three shots over Ben Bishop’s net 72. Third low net was a tie between Manny Lira (100) and net 73 and Ken Ward (88) which Ward won with a bogey five. The last spot was also a tie between Dave Shaw (95) and Ed Hoepfner (86) and Shaw earned it with a great par four on the number one handicap hole number seven. Shaw and Bill Irace were the only two players to par that difficult hole.

Oddities found on the score cards: Ward had eight fives on the back side and Bishop recorded six fours on the last seven holes including the last five holes. The last four was a birdie on 18.

BERGSTROM WINS BY FOUR AT LEDGES

Tim Bergstrom didn’t know it when he lost his ball in the rough on the first hole that he was going to be medalist after finishing 18 holes at the Ledges on Thursday. “I can’t believe this, I hit a deep drive with a nice draw and it was curving left into the center of the fairway and I had to go back and re-tee it for a triple bogey seven”. Then he started the back side bogey, double bogey but added birdies on 14 and 15 for a nice two over par 38 on the back and finished with 79 to beat four others, Bubba Petrick, Joe Smith, Rick Scholl and Paul LeVan at 83.

Petrick and Smith together with Dick Swayne (88) and Russ Clark (89) finished the day all tied for first place low net with 72. Petrick won it unquestionably with a nice birdie on the first handicap hole the par four ninth. Smith was rewarded second place with a par on same hole. Clark grabbed third when he shot double bogey, bogey and Swayne double bogey, double bogey for 4th. Bill Irace shot a nice even par 36 on the front nine with back to back birdies on seven and eight; he finished with 84 but his net 73 got him the fifth slot.
