The valuation of building permits issued by the city of Mesquite fell slightly in August compared to a year ago coming in at $5.321 million. Last year the valuation of permits hit $5.783 million.
While the number of permits rose from 89 in August 2015 to 142 this year, much of that was due to a remodeling project at the Sandstone condos on West Mesquite Boulevard that accounted for 46 residential modification permits. Fire walls are being brought up to city code along with other smaller improvements in the condo units.
The number of single family residential permits fell by three from last year’s 25 permits with the total valuation of the homes falling to $4.896 million from $5.541 million in August 2015.
Pulte Homes of Nevada who builds in Sun City Mesquite took out 14 permits in August with values ranging from a high of $268,866 to a low of $161,304. Construction West took out three permits for new homes while Nevada Residential Construction (NRC) took out two permits in the Canyon Crest area. Three others took one permit each for new single family residences.
One grading permit was issued by the city for work on the corner of Oasis and Pioneer Boulevards where the Virgin Valley Water District is installing a new well next to the Nevada State Bank.
Six new business permits were issued in August compared to five last year. No permits were issued in August for commercial buildings or commercial modifications. Two permits were issued in each of those categories in August 2015.
The city issued 15 permits for block walls this year with only three issued last year. Four permits were issued for swimming pools.
The total valuation for all building permits issued to date in 2016 is ten million dollars higher than last year at this point coming in at $38.660 million.
