The Red Hat Divas of Mesquite held their July luncheon on Sunday, July 31 in the Redd Room at the Oasis Golf Club. Due to the extremely hot days in the area, some of the ladies were not able to attend. However, the 17 ladies that did attend were very festive in their patriotic custom designed red hats.
The restaurant crew prepared a lovely menu which included chicken tenders, house salad, garlic toast, and carrot cake. Just enough for a hot day. After lunch, the ladies that decorated their red hats with the colors of the American Flag, lined up for a contest and were judged in three categories. The judges were from the Oasis Golf Club staff.
The winner of “the Most Original” was Bonnie Mikkelsen. The hat that depicted the “Best Theme” went to Joyce Stafford and the “Most Beautiful” winner was awarded to Valerie Thompson. The other wonderfully decorated hats were worn by Pat Lyon and Arlene Palermo. There were other decorated hats in the group, however, they didn’t enter the contest.
Queen Mother, Sandi Sorenson, said “It is so much fun when the girls participate in the events that require their creative skills and knowledge. We have some very talented ladies in our chapter and there is a lot of fun and laughter when they get together and participate in the luncheon or whatever event we attend. After all, that is one of the requirements of the Red Hat Society….let loose and have fun. Our chapter began in 2004 and even though, sadly, some members have passed away, moved away or started another chapter, most of us are still going strong. Our chapter is open to ladies who want to enjoy monthly luncheons, local and out of town events at reasonable prices.”
The chapter is taking a break from the regularly scheduled lunches during the months of August and September. They will resume the lunches on Sunday, Oct. 30 with a Halloween Party. During August and September, the Red Hats will plan special outings that have been suggested and planned by the members. These will be spontaneously events, so be prepared to go at any given time. They will try to give adequate notice.
