August 1929: Harlo Dam breaks at the mouth of the Virgin River gorge. One of the biggest floods ever seen by Mesquite.

August 6, 1912: Miss Mabel Leavitt who returned home from Overton with Misses Thuza Leavitt and Ethel Bunker went to the mountains Saturday and returned home late night Sunday. They had a very pleasant trip and Miss Mabel returned home to Overton Wednesday.

August 5, 1962:  Oscar Abbott captures a vicious young man, James Henry Meador who fled Las Vegas in a stolen car after a week of rape and robbery in 2 states. The robber did not resist arrest. Meador at the time was wanted by the FBI.

August 9, 1912: William Bowman started his store on Main Street.
