On August 21, at approximately 11:45 p.m. Mesquite Police Officers were called to an apartment complex to investigate a domestic disturbance between two men. While the officers were speaking with the two suspects involved one of the men attempted to pull out a handgun which was concealed in his waist area. An officer was close enough to the suspect that the officer was able to quickly revert to his training and grab the suspect’s hand and forcefully remove the handgun. The male suspect was then safely taken into custody.
Upon closer examination the officers found the handgun was fully loaded and had been stolen out of Lincoln County Nevada.
Colten Mora, 19, of Caliente Nevada, was arrested and charged with: One felony count of carrying a concealed weapon (firearm), one felony count of possession of a stolen firearm, one misdemeanor count of resisting arrest, one misdemeanor count of possession of drug paraphernalia, and one misdemeanor count of battery domestic violence.
Due to the felony charges, Colten Mora was transported and booked into the Clark County Detention Center in Las Vegas Nevada.
That suspect should be charged with felony assault on a police officer at the least, and should go to prison for at least 20 years.
This just goes to show the level of danger our police are exposed to even in small cities like ours. Law enforcement training makes the difference. Congrats to MPD..
Glad the officers involved were safe and able to return home to their families after their shift. Good work gentlemen. Also thanks for showing that there is almost always a way to deal with a hostile gun situation without anyone having to get shot and killed. Your cool heads prevailed and no was injured, that’s a win=win for all involved.
