It is that time of year again, when local businesses start counting on the readers to tell the rest of the community how they size up to their competition.

The Best of Mesquite contest has been printed this week, on page 4B, and all of the businesses who really, really want your vote have purchased space to remind you that they are still here and ready to serve you.

This will be the final Summer contest, as the MLN prepares to relocate the voting ballots to January 2017 for better results and to involve snowbirds while they are still here.

For 2016, there aren’t too many category changes, but voters will still have to select 15 out of 52 categories when submitting their ballot. There is a limit of one ballot per person and a database will be kept to insure that this is observed. The other rules are simple, and mirror much of the same as 2015: voter must be over the age of 13; no copies, scans or faxes of ballots will be accepted; contact info must be included on the ballot; and there is no purchase necessary. Any ballot that is found to be incomplete or may have strong similarities to those submitted with it may be discarded. The MLN does not endorse ‘rigging’ or cheating the contest in any form.

Ballots will continue to be printed on July 21 and 28. All ballots must be mailed to the MLN office, 12 W. Mesquite Blvd Suite 109, Mesquite, NV 89027 by August 3 or turned in to the office during normal business hours, Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. – 2 p.m. There is no slot to drop ballots off to this year.

Results on the 2016 Best of Mesquite will be published October 6.

Due to popular request, the contest will return for its 13th year in January 2017 and will publish again in April or May.
