Special City Council Meeting to Canvass Election Results

Print Friendly

On Wednesday, June 22 at 5 p.m., the Mesquite City Council will hold a special meeting to canvass the results of the June 14 primary election for three city council seats.

The unofficial results of the primary election are available online now on the Nevada Secretary of State and the Clark County websites. The results only become official once they are canvassed by the City Council. (Canvass means a review of the election results by the mayor and city council and declaration of official election results.)

Recently, the City contracted with Clark County to have the County provide voting machines and assist in counting the ballots. As part of the same agreement, the City retained the responsibility to canvass the returns and issue certificates of election. Consequently, any questions regarding the canvassing of election results rest with the City.
