LAS VEGAS, NEV. – The Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT) anticipates heavy traffic during Independence Day weekend in Las Vegas. An estimated 330,000 visitors are expected in Southern Nevada from July 3 through July 5, with 60 percent traveling by vehicle, says the Las Vegas Convention Visitors Authority. That means 200,000 additional motorists on local roadways. Southern Nevada, as it stands, already averages 104,000 vehicles daily along its major highways.

“We anticipate heavy traffic along Interstate 15, U.S. Highway 95 and the resort corridor during Independence Day weekend,” said NDOT spokesman Tony Illia. “Motorists should allow additional travel time to reach their final destination, and maintain alert while driving.”

AAA forecasts nearly 43 million Americans nationwide will journey 50 miles or more from home this Independence Day, with 85 percent traveling by car. For current road information go to: www.nvroads.com
