BISHOP SHOOTS HIS AGE AGAIN

A surprising number of MMGA members showed up for the last day in May and the first real hot day of the 2016 summer season. Andrew Yeh never worked up a drop of sweat as he shot two rounds of 35-35-70 that included an eagle on the par five first hole and birdies on 12, 16 and 17. His was not the only eagle of the day. Tim Bergstrom eagled the par five 7th hole after hitting his second shot 15 feet past the hole and nailed the right to left breaking putt for his “big bird”. The round of the day was the talk of the clubhouse as Ben Bishop proved once again that age has nothing to do with a good golf round. He had a birdie on hole three and 13 for a front side of 35 and 42 on the back recording the second time he has shot his age in recent memory. His round won him first place low net with a 64. Frank Vandeweghe (80) won second low gross. Rory Tomsic (83) broke the tie for second low net with Joel Reilly(88) and net 67 with a bogey on hole 13. Fourth low net went to Bob Chambers also with a gross 80 and a net 68 with his nice par on the first hdcp hole. Tied with Chamber’s net 68 was Rick Brown (79) but got fifth when he bogeyed thirteen. 6th low net was taken by Hal Rundle (83) and net 71 with his par four on 13 dropping Jim Anderson (92) and net 71 into the 7th slot. Oddities of the day went to Chambers when he recorded nine fours with a birdie on the par five first hole and six in the next seven holes. Russ Clark recorded eight fives with three on the front side and five in a row 10 thru 14.

THE MMGA 2016 FED EX CUP STARTS AT THE LEDGES GOLF COURSE

The MMGA annual three month Fed Ex style net tournament started this year at the Ledges golf course in St George. Tom Durenberger got off to a torrid start. He scored a pair of nine hole rounds of 38 for medalist score of 76. The round included three birdies on the front side and back to back birdies on 13 and 14. “The cups were in ridiculous places today so the only reason I can offer for my score is it must have been the higher altitude “. Willie Nelson shot a 93 to win low net at 70.

The next scheduled play is Tuesday, June 7th at 7:00 at Falcon Ridge and Thursday June 9th at 6:30 at the Palms . Always check your sig up sheets for any corrected times or places.
