LIMITED MMGA TRAVELS TO CORAL CANYON

Summer is not far away and the MMGA players that were left over from Monday’s Mesquite Card Tournament on May 23 loaded up their vans and headed to St George and Coral Canyon. Fifteen members teed it up and seemed to struggle through the 18 holes even though the course had trimmed down all the brush on many of the holes.

Due to a self-inflicted disqualification Tom Durenberger led the field with 85. First place low net went to Frank Thomasino (87) and net 72. Gary Denhalter (91), Dick Swayne (88) and Don Mannon (91) were one stroke behind at net 73.

Mannon dropped out of contention on the first handicap hole which was on the back side with a “snowman.” A bit unfortunate that it was on the back because he had the overall best nine holes with a 38 on the front side. Denhalter would get second with a bogey. Swayne had to take third because he double bogeyed hole fourteen.

PETRICK SAYS FAREWELL

Bubba Petrick playing his last time from the middle tees led all MMGA players at the Casablanca golf course Thursday, May 27 firing a blistering round of 41-41-82. “I can’t wait to move up” Petrick said as he made his last putt for a par four on the really difficult 17th hole. It was quite an emotional scene for the big guy.

Don Mannon’s 85 was the second best gross round. Dave Shaw’s nice round of 87 got him first place low net with 67. Two shots behind was Mannon’s 85 that was a net 69. Russ Clark (86) was all alone in third with 70. Rory Tomsic (87) grabbed 4th with 72 and Frank Thomasino (87) earned 5th place with a net 73. The final slot with a net 74 was Jim Smith (88).

The next scheduled play is Thursday June 2 at 9 a.m. at the Ledges. Always check your sign-up sheets for any corrected times or places. Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 702-346-5636. Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf .com.
