The latest addition to off the strip Las Vegas attractions is the former home of Mr. Las Vegas himself, Wayne Newton. The famed Casa de Shenandoah has recently opened its door to visitors. This beautiful, peaceful utopia created by Mr. Newton was a complete surprise to me.
The Museum is a wealth of mostly unknown information about the life of Wayne Newton .
Casa Shenandoah is an astounding working Arabian horse breeding ranch and small animal sanctuary just minutes from the strip, under the airport flight path. It includes a palatial home with a vibrant history.
A visit here is especially interesting to seniors who grew up with Wayne Newton’s music, yet like me knew very little of his life other, than becoming famous as a singer at the young age of 15. You will learn of his history, how and why this place was built and of his lesser known patriotic service to our country and the troops. I did not know it is Wayne Newton who has taken the place of the late Bob Hope in the leadership role of providing entertainment for the troops overseas.
All the Arabian show horses get a daily exercise swim.
This place was designed by Wayne; he began buying the land in 1966. He lived in Las Vegas since he was 15 years old. His passion is breeding the Arabian show horses. The stable include chandeliers and the horses have their own swimming pool for exercise. Visitors get to see the horses swimming in the pool as well as the training rink. We were told he delivers most of the foals himself.

There are a variety live birds on exhibit and Australian Wallabies. Everyone loves Boo, one very lucky spoiled capuchin monkey. Peacocks roam the grounds.
Wayne built a new home around 2012. This is why his former mansion can be now on display. The house designed by Wayne was listed by CBS as one of the top five homes in the Country. It certainly is something special to see and to learn of its history and the famous people including Several U.S. presidents who have been guest there.
The tours begin from the Visitors center across the street from the grounds. There is not a lot of walking as a tour van drives you to the grounds and to each stop. There are three tours to choose from or you can choose to visit only the museum. A visit to the museum includes a tour of Wayne’s private jet.
In the museum many of the displays are expounded upon by short videos of Wayne himself giving meaning to the items on exhibit. I am sure he must have one of the largest collections of mementoes that have been taken into space by his astronaut friends.
Many famous public figures have dined at Wayne Newton’s table.
There are eleven exceptional automobiles on display, each having their own anecdote, told to visitors by the tour guide.
The famous crystal staircase has been removed because of all the tourist going through the house, but the crystal legged pool table is on view, in the house.
Visitors taking any of these three tours will be amazed at the property and greatly enlighten about Wayne Newton.
