The Virgin Valley High School Bulldog baseball team could not hold an early 2-0 lead against Desert Pines High School Jaguars and fell 9-4 in the Dawg Pound Wednesday afternoon, April 27.

The Dawgs scored early behind speedy leadoff hitter Jayden Perkins who went 2-4 for his day’s work. Perkins singled to open the Bulldogs first inning, went to second on a passed ball, took third and home on ground balls for the first run of the game. The Bulldogs added one more run in the first as Logan Felix was hit by a pitched ball, stole second and scored on a single by Koby Smothers.

The Jaguars put five runs on the board in the third on only two hits helped by two walks and two Bulldog errors. All scored after two outs were registered by the Dawgs. The Bulldogs got one run back in the bottom of the third on another Perkins single and an RBI single off the bat of Felix making the score 5-3 after three innings.

The Jaguars blew the game wide open in the fourth inning putting up four runs on only one hit. Errors and passed balls gave the Jaguars the opportunities to score. The Bulldogs threatened in the bottom of the seventh but could not take advantage of four walks scoring only one run to make the final score 9-4.

The Dawgs league record went to 2-10 and 6-17 overall. The Dawgs finish the season traveling to Del Sol on May 5.
