On Thursday, April 21 Shelter Insurance Agency located at 1085 W. Pioneer Blvd. gave a large donation of teddy bears to both the Mesquite Police and Fire Departments for children who have been involved in any kind of tragic or stressful situation such as an accident or domestic violence situations.

Andrew Bird, representative for Shelter Insurance, said Police Department officials love to give out stuffed animals and have had this policy for quite some time. They’ve just had a difficult time with obtaining any sort of steady supply. Shelter Insurance has agreed to supply a steady stream of stuffed bears for the children.

Bird will make regular monthly visits to both departments to insure they have enough teddy bears on hand if, heaven forbid, they ever need them.

Bird said this program was introduced to Mesquite by one of their Parump, NV agents whose husband is a patrol officer. Their department regularly gives stuffed animals to sick and injured children so they have something to comfort them during their stressful times. “The program is a huge hit in Pahrump and the office here decided that this was a good way for us to give back to our community,” said Bird.

A department representative posted on the Facebook page, “We are happy to receive stuffed animal donations. We give stuffed animals at any opportunity our officers come across to brighten a child’s day and remind them we are there to help.”
