High Schoolers react to new gym approval

Things are heating up at Virgin Valley High school and it’s not just the anticipation of summer vacation.  Virgin Valley has been approved for new auxiliary gymnasium and the staff, students and community as whole are ecstatic to see the benefits that will come from the project.

“This gym has been in the workings for years,” said Cliff Hughes, VVHS principal.  “We were promised a new gymnasium in 1998 at graduation, but today we have been pushing and working towards our goals and it has finally arrived.”

While Hughes is excited to see the benefits coming from this new gym, students are also buzzing with excitement.  Student Athlete Ty Smith, a national wrestling champion, says “the new gym will not only help me, it will help all the student athletes coming up in the following years, and that’s what matters.”

Senior athlete Janella Fiso, volleyball and basketball player at Virgin Valley, says she is excited to see the effect this will have on not only the school but the community as a whole.  “It will benefit all students, new and old and will be a beacon to shine on upcoming athletics at Virgin Valley.”

Flag football and soccer athlete Kari Wakefield says that even though she won’t be using the new gym herself, she is excited to see the support that will come.  “Now that it’s an awareness at the school, people will want to come watch us play, whether they play in the sport or not.”

Construction is slaated to begin at the end of the 2015-16 school year and supposed to take a whole year. Many students and staff hope to have it completed sooner.  The new gymnasium will be a beacon in these upcoming school years to show the community and all those around that VVHS is a strong and supported school, and that the students and faculty all have Bulldog Pride.
