Henderson, Nev. – The City of Henderson is looking for professional, amateur and student artists to transform the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water St., into a colorful exhibit of chalk art masterpieces over Mother’s Day weekend. The display will be a part of Art Festival of Henderson, which will be held from 9 a.m.-4 p.m. on Saturday, May 7 and Sunday, May 8. There is no cost to participate.

Artists will have the opportunity to paint the plaza with recreations of famous paintings and modern art, or tell a story with their own original pieces using chalk pastels. Individuals may select between three different square sizes to develop their artwork. Each artist will be able to compete in one of three categories – children (12 years and younger), teen (13 to 17 years old) and adult (18 years and older) – for a chance to win cash prizes, which are courtesy of several community partners.

Applications, with a sketch of the person’s artwork that will be featured at Art Festival of Henderson, are due Monday, May 2. Chalk art applications are available at cityofhenderson.com.

Art Festival of Henderson has been a Mother’s Day weekend tradition for years. Thousands travel to Henderson to enjoy a weekend dedicated to the visual, performing, interactive and fine arts. Dozens of booths along Water Street will be selling artwork, with styles from mixed media to ceramics available for purchase. The event will also include entertainment and a children’s Imagination Station, complete with art projects for the little Picassos. Admission is complimentary.
