Lady Bulldog softball team goes 2-1 for week

The Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldog softball team won 2 and lost 1 for the week. The Bulldog girl’s defeated small school Pahranagat Valley 9-8 in a shoot-out Tuesday April 5 in Alamo. Janella Fiso led the Dawgs with three hits and two RBI’s. The Dawgs took a 3-0 lead in the top of the third inning on RBI singles by Taylor Barnum and Tylee Robison. The Panthers retaliated quickly putting up four runs in the bottom of the inning to lead 4-3 on two errors and one hit. The Dawgs regained the lead in the top of the fifth inning 6-4 on a walk to Savannah Price, a single by Barnum, an error and a pass ball. Not to be denied the Panthers scored three runs in the bottom of the sixth to regain the lead 7-6. Three bases on balls plus one single led to the scores. The Dawgs put the game away in the top of the seventh inning on a walk to leadoff batter Robison, two consecutive singles by Shalee Hafen and Gizelle Navarro, Calee Clem brought them in with a hard single giving the Dawgs a 9-7 advantage. The Panthers managed one run in the bottom of the inning on two Bulldog errors. Bulldog pitcher Price forced a ground out with a Panther runner at third base to end the game. Price pitched a complete game for the win.

Wakefield pitches Lady Bulldogs past Jaguars 16-2

It was payback for the Lady Bulldogs Wednesday April 6 at Desert Pines as they scored eight runs in the first inning to lead 8-0 after one inning of play. It was a big change from recent games when the Dawgs fell behind early losing big. The Bulldogs managed four hits in the inning the big blow, a double off the bat of Tylee Robison. The Bulldogs added a run in the second and third innings on one hit to lead 10-0. There was no stopping the Dawgs as they added two runs in the fourth and four in the top of the fifth and final inning to win 16-2. Bulldog hurler Adri Wakefield was in control as she allowed only two runs while striking out six in her five innings of work. The win gave the Dawgs a 3-2 record in Sunrise League play and 10-7 overall for the season.

The VVHS Lady Bulldogs lost 3-2 a heartbreaker to Sunrise Mountain High School Miners Friday in Las Vegas. Bulldog hurler Savannah Price battled Miner Andrea Garner for six innings but fell short despite putting two runners on base in the seventh with no outs. The Miners struck first on two Bulldog errors to lead 1-0 after one inning. A single and triple in the third inning increased the Miners lead to 3-0. The Dawgs threatened in the top of the fourth stranding two runners with no outs as Garner bore down and shut down the possible rally. The Bulldogs chipped at the Miners lead with a run in the fifth to cut the lead to 3-1. Kezney Crompton scored after opening the inning with a single. Two straight Miners errors in the seventh inning opened the gates for a possible big Bulldog rally but was quickly shut down by Garner, Gizelle Navarro and Crompton reached base on the miscues, Navarro scored on a Calee Clem ground out before Garner stuck out the side giving the Miners the win. It was a disappointing loss for the Dawgs as Price pitched well striking out seven. The loss evened the Bulldogs league record at 3-3 going into Monday’s match with Del Sol.
