After finishing a spectacular 2015 and starting off the new year on a high note in January, February’s building permit report issued by the City of Mesquite looks down right tame.

January’s total valuation of permits came in just over $5 million for 78 permits. Even though 103 permits were issued in February, the overall value of them fell to $2.963 million. That’s only six more permits than were issued a year ago with a rise of only $48,992 in valuation from February 2015.

February’s number of permits for single family residences fell to 10 from a year ago when 14 were issued. The value also fell about a hundred thousand dollars from last year. The total valuation of the single family homes permits came in at $2.316 in February.

Pulte Homes of Nevada who builds all Sun City Mesquite homes only took three permits in February. That’s the lowest number in more than a year. NRC construction also took out three permits for single family homes while Construction West got one. Three permits were taken out by private builders.

The number of residential modifications stayed even in a year-to-year comparison at 12 with the value rising from $28,718 last year to $67,303 this year.

The city issued three commercial building permits in February worth $326,980 compared to two last year worth $293,080.

Two commercial modification permits worth $13,380 were issued this year versus one last year for $600. New business permits valued at $1,000 each didn’t fare as well dropping to two in February from five last year.

The city issued one grading permit and one demolition permit in February 2015. It didn’t issue any in those two categories this year.

Block wall permits, an indicator of new residential construction, were up this year to 10 compared to a year ago when seven were issued.
