Why drive around in a dirty car when you can have it cleaned nice and shiny, and help a group of kids do a good deed for others. On Saturday, March 12 students from Beaver Dam High School Interact Club will be out in force washing cars in front of Dollar Tree on Pioneer Blvd. The car wash to run from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and they hope to see you there

Proceeds the students earn will help them go to Mexico to build a home for a less fortunate and very deserving family. This is part of Rotary District 5300’s annual SuperBuild International Service Project taking place the weekend of April 30. Rotary Club members from around District 5300 come together one weekend to offer their services by helping families in need of housing.

The trip will begin on Friday, April 29 when nine BDHS students will join members of the Mesquite Rotary Club traveling to El Cajon, California. Early on Saturday morning they will join approximately 200 Rotarians from around the District and be bused across the border to their worksite for the day. Depending on the number of homes to be built Rotarians will work at multiple sites during the day and return to El Cajon late Saturday afternoon and return to Mesquite on Sunday.

“This is a most worthwhile trip and the students gain a new understanding of what life is like in another country,” said Interact Advisor Linda Gault. “There is no electricity, running water, or indoor plumbing. The students work right alongside Rotary members and at the end of the day, are able to feel a sense of pride and accomplishment in what they have done to help others.”

The cost for each student to go on the trip is around $150 so it is important for the students to earn the right to go. “We have taken students each of the past four years and it is a real experience for them on each of these trips,” Gault said. “So far they have had bake sales and a pie throwing contest at the school to raise needed funds.

The weather should be perfect for a car wash so bring your dirty jalopy and have it cleaned. The students will appreciate having you stop by and appreciate your generous donations and support.
