The Virgin Valley High School baseball team again fell behind the Vikings from Valley High School but regained their composure and rallied for a 9-8 win Saturday morning, March 12 in the Cactus Classic Baseball Tournament. The win propelled the Bulldogs to the championship game against archrival Moapa Valley who defeated the Dawgs by an unbelievable score of 36-0 Saturday evening.

The Vikings jumped on the Dawgs in the first two innings to take a 5-0 lead. The Dawgs got one run back in the second on singles by Dallen Tanner and Logan Felix. Jason Brooks began the Bulldogs third inning with a single and was driven home by Easton Jensen’s long double making the score 5-2. The Bulldogs managed two more runs in the fourth inning on zero hits as the Vikings made mental errors allowing the Bulldogs to cut the score to 5-4.

Three Bulldog errors in the fifth inning opened the flood gates as the Vikings took advantage of the gift to score three runs giving them an 8-4 advantage. The young feisty Bulldogs would not give up as they cut the Vikings lead to 8-7.

Cade Anderson began the inning with a double splitting the Viking right side. Centerfielder Jayden Perkins and Koby Smothers walked to load the bags. Anderson scored on a wild pitch and Tanner drove in Perkins and Smothers on a single.

The Dawgs weren’t finished with their comeback as Dillon Fuqua doubled to begin the sixth inning. Perkins singled bringing Fuqua in to tie the game 8-8. Neither team scored in the seventh moving the game into extra innings.

Brooks got the Bulldog fans cheering in the eighth inning reaching first on an error. Jensen moved him up on a single but was cut down on a sweet double play by the Vikings with Brooks moving to third. Brooks scored on a wild pitch to end the game at 9-8. The win moved the Dawgs on to the final baseball game of the day. Brooks got the win relieving Fuqua in the third inning.
