The Virgin Valley High School baseball teams lost their game Monday afternoon to Pahrump High School, 18-1. The Bulldogs managed only one run on two hits off two Trojan hurlers.
The Trojans went up 3-0 in the first inning on a huge three run home run over the left field fence. The Trojans followed with a run in the second, third and two in the fourth to increase their lead to 7-0 after four. The Dawgs managed to get one run back in the bottom of the fourth to cut the Trojans lead to 7-1. Bulldog relievers Dillon Fuqua and Koby Smothers shut down the Trojans the rest of the way. At the end the Dawgs found themselves on the short end of an 8-1 score. The Bulldogs hostes Tech on Wednesday, March 16.
Bulldogs split two games at Cactus Classic
Virgin Valley split two games Friday in the opening round of the Cactus Classic. The win over the Vikings from Valley High School was the first season-opening win in memory for the Bulldogs. The evening game was a debacle as the Dawgs were whipped by their arch-rivals Moapa Valley 36-0.
Against Valley, Virgin Valley showed their mettle Friday afternoon, March 11 coming back from a 3-0 deficit to defeat Valley High School, 5-3. The win was the first season opener in the past few years by the young Dawgs. Four errors by the Bulldogs gave the Vikings a 3-0 advantage after two and a half innings.
The Dawgs rallied in the bottom of the third putting three runs on the board on two hits. The Bulldog leadoff hitter Jayson Brooks reached first on a Viking error. Marcelo Lara moved him around on a single plus throwing error. Brooks walked and all scored on a Dillon Fuqua double to the outfield tying the score 3-3.

Bulldog starter Cade Anderson settled into a routine plus errorless ball by his teammates to hold the Vikings the rest of the way. The Dawgs won the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a walk to Dillon Fuqua with a single by Jayden Perkins bringing Fuqua in to give the Dawgs a 4-3 advantage. Bulldog Koby Smothers was hit by a pitch before Logan Felix brought Perkins in on a fielder’s choice R.B.I. Anderson pitched a complete game for the Dawgs and catcher Smothers threw out four Viking base runners during the game.
It was no contest as the wind and the Pirates blew out the Bulldogs 36-0 in an embarrassing loss. The Bulldogs managed only one hit against the Pirate starters. The Pirates blasted several Bulldog pitchers for the win.
Lady Bulldogs lose 10-1 to Trojans

The Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldog softball team did not have much luck in the first game of a double-header against the Trojans. The Dawgs fell behind early, trailing 7-0 after only two innings of play and lost 10-1. Walks and errors continued to be the bane for the Lady Dawgs as pitcher Adri Wakefield walked seven Trojans, but allowed only five earned runs pitching a complete game.
The Bulldogs scored their only run in the fourth inning on singles by third baseman Janella Fiso and catcher Tiley Robison. The Trojans added three runs in the top of the seventh to make the final score 10-1 in favor of the visiting Trojans.
Despite the score, Wakefield and the Bulldogs settled down through innings three to six, not allowing a Trojan to cross pay dirt. Fiso led the Bulldog hitters going 3-3 for her at bats.
In the second game, the Bulldogs lost 16-9 in extra innings. The stats pretty much tell the story of the game.
The Dawgs committed 10 errors behind pitcher Savannah Price. The Trojans put up a run in each of the first three innings, adding three more in the top of the fourth to take a 6-0 lead. The Bulldogs scored three runs in the bottom of the inning to cut the lead to 6-3.
The Bulldog bats came to life in the sixth inning scoring six runs to take a 9-7 lead after six complete innings. The lead was short lived as the Trojans tied the game at 7-7 in the seventh inning forcing extra innings. The Trojans roared to life in the ninth inning putting up seven runs to win 16-9.
