The Virgin Valley Artists Association hold a Brown Bag Luncheon on the first Tuesday of each month at the Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery with the subject matter and the presenter determined by who and what draws the crowd.

At the Brown Bag Luncheon held on Tuesday, Feb. 2 Dave Zeleniak filled the Gallery with eager recipients of his tried and true tips and tricks to growing beautiful and healthy roses in the desert.

If anyone would ask Zeleniak if he was an expert, his reply would be, “No, I am not an expert”, which is what it says on page 2 of his 36-page Power Point slide show, but his following and his presentation would tell a very different story.

Zeleniak’s presentation covers everything from planting to feeding and pruning and those who attended were able to take home their own copy of Zeleniak’s expertise.

With Zeleniak having presented his rose growing tips in places such as the Eureka and Sun City with decent audiences at both locations it would seem that, judging by the size of the audience, his presentation is ‘growing’ right along with the beautiful and bountiful bushes he lovingly and passionately speaks of.

There is nothing extraneous in the information he presents. Everything is tried and true and put together in the simplest terms that anyone can understand from rose novices to seasoned growers. Tips are outlined, watering schedules are perfect for the climate and he even includes the cost of tools, fertilizers and plants from various sources.
