The Virgin Valley High School girl’s flag football team jumped on the Moapa Valley High School Pirates early Monday afternoon, Feb. 1 leading 18-14 after one half of play. The Dawgs increased their lead to 31-14 with a little over 13 minutes remaining in the game before the Pirates behind two long bombs cut the Dawgs lead to 31-26 with two minutes remaining. A huge 23 yard third down pass from Kallie Graves to Madison Cheney helped the Dawgs keep possession and run out the clock.

Katie Zuniga scored on the next two Bulldog possessions with short runs. Zuniga would hit two more T.D.’s to give the Dawgs their 31-14 before the Pirates late surge.

Graves passed for 162 yards on 10 of 16 passes and added 87 yards on the ground to lead the Dawgs offense. Elizabeth De Leon had 78 yards on the ground followed by Zuniga with 52 yards. Cheney had five receptions for 85 yards.

The win keeps the Dawgs in a second place tie with Del Sol behind undefeated Boulder City with a 9-2 record. The Dawgs travel to Del Sol on Wednesday Feb. 3 in an important game for both teams.
