The Falcon Ridge Golf Club Tournament was held Friday, Feb. 19 and resulted in great scores for the players who came out for the great weather.

Ron Nickle took low gross with a 74, which should drop his handicap overall for the year.

First low net went to Esther Strong who recorded a 62 for her round. Second low net was a tie at 64 between Pam Mitchell and Brent Arndt. The score card playoff gave second to Arndt and third to Mitchell.

Fourth low net was awarded to Ray Sweat with a 65; fifth place went to John Stahl at 67.

Closest to the pin for the day was Scott Jones on hole #2, Stewart Jones on #5, Jim Olson on #8, Doug Walters on #14 and Nickle on #17.

Mitchell said that “all the golfers played so well it was very hard to win a skin.” Three skins were all that were handed out, those lucky recipients being Jones on #2, Jeff Lund on #6 and Bill Conrad on #14.

“We really want to thank the Falcon Ridge staff for all they do each week to make these tournaments so successful,” said organizer Jim Buttler. “Oh, and Roger Ingbretson finally fessed up and said that his ace on hole #5 last week was with a smooth 8 iron,” Buttler said.

Bjornson hits hole-in-one

Mesquite resident Glen Bjornson had a bit of a Valentine’s Day present Sunday, February 14, while playing with three friends at the Oasis Golf Club’s Palmer Course.

With his 8-iron on the par 3 hole #7 and a soft fade, Bjornson was able to hit the sweet spot and record the feat. The ball landed just 10-feet away from the hole and found its way in.

RUNDLE WINS FIRST MEDALIST WITH EAGLE

Hal Rundle who hits a long ball and keeps it in play scores up and down rounds. This Tuesday at Falcon Ridge he shot his best round ever. In fact, when his score was entered into SNGA at first it would not accept his score but printed a “warning” message. But it was his day starting with a birdie two on hole two and finished the front nine with a three over par 38. The difficult par five 10th he recorded an eagle three knocking a three metal from 230yds out to within five feet of the cup. He also shot pars on six of the next seven holes for a three over par 39 on the dreaded back nine for a superb round of 75 to win his first medalist honor since joining the MMGA. A big CONGRATS Hal! The next nearest players were Jason Richmond and Tim Miller with 81. Miller got second place when he parred the 13th hole.   Aaron Kennerd (83) for low net at 70. Tuesday was also the final match of our Semi-Winter-Classic between Kennerd and Ed Hoepfner. It was a big day for Kennerd as his gross 83 beat Hoepfner five and four to win the classic. Second net went to arbitration between Jim Anderson (92), Don Mannon (87) and Russ Clark (89) all tied with net 72. Anderson got third with a bogey on 13, Mannon and Clark tripled and Mannon earned 3rd with a nice par on hole number six dropping Clark to fourth.   The last four spots were tied between Gary Denhalter (91), Mike Holden (103) and Bill Nelson (94) and Pat Smitty (88) all notched at net 73.                                                           Denhalter easily got fifth with a bogey. Smitty’s triple bogey on 13 earned him slot six. Holden double bogeyed number 6 for 7th, but none the less a winner for the first time since coming back from a three-year absence from the MMGA. Nelson got the 8th position.

WINDS DON’T AFFECT FORWARD TEE PLAYERS

Thursday at the Canyons golf course and winds up over 30mph didn’t seem to affect the players from the forward tees. Almost to a player they shot a few strokes within their normal scores. The middle tee players were not so successful. The exception was for Paul LeVan who shot 40-39-79 to win medalist honors over Jason Richmond’s 41-43-84 or Greg Sullivan at 41- 45-86. The only two players to shoot a nine under 40 was LeVan and Bubba Petrick with 39 both on the back side when the wind was the worse. Ed Hoepfner (84) and Greg Sullivan (86) were tied at the end of the day for low net with 71 which Hoepfner stole with a par on hole six. Third low net was a three-way tie between Lyle Warner (94), Delbert Moore (88) and Petrick (84) at 72. Warner took third with a par, Moore fourth with a bogey and Petrick won 5th but wouldn’t divulge his score but I think it was the first number in the name of a popular chain of fast foods

stores. Terry Gardner (94) and net 75 won 6th low net. Neighborhood “brothers” Manny Lira (100) and Joel Reilly (97) battled it out for the last two slots with their net 76. Lira got 7th with his double bogey dropping Reilly to 8th.
