The Desert Dames held their monthly luncheon on Jan. 27 at the Oasis Golf Club Grille Room enjoying a delicious lunch of assorted wrap sandwiches, tossed salad, coleslaw, potato salad, and desert. The Dames are very grateful to the management and staff of the Grille Room for always providing an excellent lunch for members.

Even though luncheons normally include musical entertainment or a guest speaker the January program featured Peggy Pope and John Hughes speaking on personal self-defense. They announced a free self-defense workshop for women scheduled for Mar. 5 at 2 p.m. at the Smokin Gun Range. This is a “One Stop Workshop” introduction to self-defense options with demonstrations and information on firearms and other weaponry for women, person self-defense, beginners/brush-up shooting classes and CCW permit classes. What a great opportunity to learn more about personal safety.

This month the Dames Valentine’s Day luncheon will be held on Feb. 24. The Desert Dames promote friendship through meetings, social functions, and special interest groups. Anyone 21 years or older that live in Mesquite or the surrounding areas can join. For more information call Membership Chair Debbie Oskin at (702) 346-0811.
