Mesquite, NV – In January of 2015 the Mesquite Police Department created an office of public information in order to better meet the constant and changing needs of our community and local media outlets. Lieutenant MaQuade Chesley was the director of the public information office and has served as department public information officer since 2013. On January 18, 2016 Lieutenant Chesley promoted to the position of Police Captain. With Captain Chesley’s promotion came various modifications within our department. These changes will enable us to continue to operate at a high level of efficiency and effectiveness in streamlining all police divisions and operations.

mpd logoDeputy Chief Scott Taylor has been assigned as the new director of the Mesquite Police Department Office of Public Information and will be a point of contact for significant incidents, events, and breaking news stories. Officer Quinn Averett has been assigned as the department public information officer and placed in charge of handling public information assignments, which include press releases and dissemination of information requested by the media. Officer Averett will remain a point of contact to assist with any public information requests. Officer Averett’s primary focus will be criminal related information but will be available to answer questions reference crime and public service related incidents.

Kim Otero has been placed in charge of handling all public service announcements and public service releases that are not related to criminal incidents. Kim Otero will be the main point of contact for MPD special events and other public service related releases and information.

This change in our office of public information personnel will not change our way of operating. Our goal will remain the same, which is to effectively and efficiently disseminate police related information. We would however, appreciate your consideration and patience, understanding that each of the aforementioned MPD employees are busy individuals tasked with multiple other duties and responsibilities within the department.
