REILLY BEGINS 2016 WITH A SLAM

Joel Reilly started off the new year with an outstanding round of golf.  Forget he was at the forward tees.  He had a lot of fun shooting one of his best rounds in some time.  His round of 40 on the front and 47 on the back side was capped off with the shot of the day on the par five 16th hole at Falcon Ridge. He used his wedge from off the green that rolled some 40 feet across the green breaking several feet into the jar for a birdie four.  That birdie won him one of the only two skins of the day.  His round also earned him first place low net with a 67.  Great day Joel!  Ed Hoepfer (83) and Bubba Petrick (84) were tied for second with 70’s.  Hoepfner earned that spot with a bogey on 13 when Petrick lost interest and four putted for a triple and third.  Many Lira (93), Greg Smith (87) and Bill Irace (84) were together waiting for third place all with net 71’s.  Lira definitely earn third with a nice par four on the first handicap hole.  Smith took 5th when he went bogey, par on number 6 and Irace shot bogey, bogey.  With Andrew Yeh away in New York City players are taking advantage of winning medalist honors.  This day it was Jeff Hoyt with an 81.

SCHOLL WINS HIS FIRST MMGA MEDALIST HONOR

Recent MMGA member has been learning the golf courses in town and on Thursday at the CasaBlanca he recorded a birdie on each nine for a very nice 39-38-77 to beat off Neil Hendricks by two shots.  Congrats Rick!  Hendricks fared well with his 39-40.  He won’t mind though when he learns that his score was a net 68 for first place low net.  That beat Delbert Moore (85) by one shot.  This was Moore’s better rounds in some time.  Sterling Johnson (86) and Jeff Hoyt (82) tied for third.  Hoyt would have place much higher were it not for an 11on his second hole.  On the first handicap hole Johnson won third with a bogey five.  Joe Smith (82), Tim Miller (81) and Bill Irace (85) were tied at net 73.  All three players had to go to the fifth handicap hole to determine that Smith got 5th with a par.  Miller earned the last trophy when he bogeyed the fifth playoff hole dropping Irace out of contention.  Pat Smitty had the the hole of the day on the par four 12th.  He pull hooked his drive over on the dirt path behind a hedge of bushes. His second shot nicked the limbs and fell short of the green.  From there his third shot stopped three feet from the cup where he putted in for a “sweet” par.

The next scheduled play is Tuesday, Jan 19th at 8:30 at the Canyons and Thursday   Jan 21st at 9:00 at the Falcon Ridge.
