It took the Virgin Valley High School Lady Bulldog basketball team a quarter of play to get their offense in gear before sprinting out to a 56-29 win over the Roadrunners from TECH Thursday night in the Dawg House.

Bulldog forward Brianna Todd hit a three ball less than a minute into the game followed by a two from point guard Spencer Green to give the Dawgs an early 5-1 lead. The Dawgs would manage only 10 points in the period but still led 10-6.

The Roadrunners tied the Dawgs 13-13 early in the second period before Todd hit eight out of the next 10 points to give the Dawgs a 23 -17 lead which they never relinquished the rest of the way. The Dawgs press took its toll on the TECH offense forcing numerous turnovers giving the Dawgs a 31-20 advantage at the break. Todd led the Dawgs with 13 points followed by Green with eight points.

The Bulldog full court press stopped the Roadrunners cold, as the Dawg offense pushed the ball up court for a 40-26 lead after three periods. Bernice Fiso had seven points in the period for the Lady Dawgs. Bulldog reserves finished off the Roadrunners with 16 points in the fourth period led by six points from Savannah Price and four from Abbie Barnum.

Todd finished with 13 points all in the first half followed by nine points from Fiso and eight from Green. Fiso dominated the defensive boards for the Bulldogs. The win keeps the Dawgs in a second place tie in Sunrise League play with a 6-2 record going into a tough three game road trip.

The Dawgs face Del Sol on Monday Jan.25 before the short trip to face Moapa Valley on Jan. 29. The Pirates sit one game behind the Dawgs with a 5-3 record.
