ElksVets-01-14-16Members of the Mesquite Elks Lodge #2811 provide free transportation for veterans in the Virgin Valley to and from the VA Hospital and medical clinics in Las Vegas. Veterans who are disabled, sick or are unable to drive are eligible for the program. The Disabled American Veterans Association (DAV), a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting American military veterans, provides the Lodge with two vans for use in transporting the veterans. The Mesquite Elks Lodge maintains the vans and provides free transportation to and from Las Vegas three days a week.

Sam Latendresse, Mesquite Elks DAV Transportation Chairman, proudly announced that in 2015 the ten members who volunteer their time to this special program served 564 veterans. Each trip requires approximately eight hours of the volunteer’s time. During the year, they volunteered 1,766 hours, which equals over 44 40-hour weeks. They also drove a total of 26,252 miles. That is the equivalent of 11 round trips to New York and back.

Veterans who are interested in receiving this free service can contact the Mesquite Elks Lodge at (702) 345-2811 for more information.
