Mesquite reported the best percentage increase in Gross Gaming Revenues in all of Clark County.
With two months left in the calendar year, Mesquite has already broken the million mark in the number of visitors who stopped by and stayed a few days. Last year it took eleven months to hit the million mark. So far it’s shaping up to be the highest number of visitors in a calendar year since 2008 when almost 1.5 million people came to visit.
The Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority reported that 116,014 visitors stayed in area hotels in October taking the year-to-date count to 1,033,567 people.
October’s count was the second highest so far this calendar year with only March’s 122,793 count higher. It’s also 7 percent higher than October 2014’s number of 108,450.
Mesquite hasn’t seen this high of a visitor count for October since 2008 when it hit 129,434.
The overall visitor count wasn’t the only good news in the LVCVA October report. All the other numbers were also in positive range compared to a year ago.
Total occupancy was up 5.1 percent to 84.7 percent while the Average Daily Room Rate increased 6.1 percent to $62.12 over last year’s rate of $58.57.
Total Room Nights Occupied also rose a respectable 4.6 percent showing the number of nights hotel rooms were occupied by paid or complimentary guests at 44,794 up from last year’s 42,813.
Those numbers fed extremely well into the Revenue Per Available Room (RevPAR) which jumped a whopping 12.9 percent to $52.62. That big jump in the statistic bodes well for local establishments as it’s used to measure the financial performance of and health among hotel operators. RevPar only measures revenue from hotel room rates and does not include other sources of revenue like alcohol sales or gaming.
Gross Gaming Revenue increased 2.9 percent over last year coming in $24,000 over the $10 million mark. It’s the first time since April that gaming revenues exceeded that mark. 2011 was the last year that gaming outlets saw their revenue exceed the magic number in October.
And it’s the best percentage monthly increase reported in all of Clark County.
As it has all year, Average Daily Auto Traffic on I-15 at the Nevada/Arizona border increased 6.3 percent from October 2014’s count with 24,673 vehicles passing through Mesquite every day.
According to the LVCVA report, Laughlin’s visitor count was flat year-to-year at 162,028 in October. All other numbers in the report for Laughlin were in the positive range mirroring Mesquite’s report.
Total Occupancy rose 2.5 percent to 61.7 percent. Average Daily Room Rate increased 3.7 percent to $43.22 while Total Room Nights Occupied improved 1.7 percent to 191,672.
Laughlin’s RevPAR increased 8.1 percent to $26.67. Gross Gaming Revenue for Mesquite’s sister city to the south increased a miniscule 0.6 percent to $39.535 million.
The Average Daily Auto Traffic on Highway 163 into Laughlin rose 1.9 percent while the number of plane passengers at the Laughlin/Bullhead City airport jumped 31 percent to 21,226.
Las Vegas Visitor Volumes increased 5.6 percent from October 2014 coming in at 3.784 million people. Citywide occupancy rates reached 92.8 percent according to the LVCVA report increasing 3.7 percent from last year.
Gross Gaming Revenues for all of Clark County dropped 4 percent in October from last year coming in at $755.960. The Las Vegas Strip gaming revenues were down 5.1 percent, Downtown revenues fell 6.5 percent while the Boulder Strip gross gaming fell 6.6 percent. LVCVA attributed much of drop in countywide and city gaming revenues to lower baccarat numbers.
Average Daily Auto Traffic on all major highways in the Las Vegas metropolitan area increased 5.7 percent with a 3.8 percent increase on I-15 at the Nevada California border.
