The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery has a flair for displaying art that appeals to all.  This perhaps stems from the fact that Virgin Valley Artists Association, the gallery operator, boasts over 200 members.  Somewhere among that collection of talent and viewpoints there is an art style, medium, subject that fits the fancy of each visitor who enters its doors.

Original art and a sumptuous selection of giftware are now offered in the Gallery’s 10th Annual Christmas Boutique.  Janet Trobough shows her spectacular Southwest-inspired work as December Artist of the Month.”  There is art on display for every beholder and a perfect gift item for each shopper!  Shopping is made easy for all, with Gallery hours extended 10a-7:30p every Tuesday through the holidays.  Self-gifting is allowed here.

The diverse set of winners of the current “Lucky 13” exhibition only scratches the surface of the 100-plus choices of wall art currently on display.  The winners sample a spectrum of delectable art.  These award-winning original pieces will be on display through Jan. 2.

Awarded Best of Show prize, quilter and art instructor Margaret Abramshe put her best efforts into a small fabric wall hanging, “Joy.” Emotion, composition, and fine artistic execution combine in her winning work.   The gallery features all original art, all for sale.

Geraldine Zarate capsulizes a vast panorama of desert glory in her Blue Ribbon acrylic, “Mesa Cottonwood.   A local historian, Geraldine speaks to the heart of all who treasure the beauty of the Nevada landscape.  On the opposite end of the focal length, Carol Wenz zeros in on a mantis on a “Prickly Perch,” portrayed in vividly dyed silk.  Carol’s honorable mention work can be paired with her other entry, “Flutter By,” in a dramatic visual twosome.

If it is dramatic vitality you seek, Katherine Ludwig’s acrylic styling will attract you.  She paints scenes that combine color, action, and sound, blending keyboards, horns, and abstract acrylic with alluring portraits.  Her impressive work, “Red Moment,” holds honorable mention.    Frenetic action of present day in the big city is alive in Maya Farber’s collage, “On Time.”  Maya, a resident of New York City, may have been looking out her window when she constructed her winning art.  She is also master of dramatic acrylic painting, having taken honors in past exhibitions at the Mesquite Gallery and nationally.

Artists seeking understanding and relationship with another being produce works so diverse as Floyd Johnson’s White Ribbon portrait, “Reminiscence,” and David Boyarski’s honored photograph of the awesome detail of a humming bird, “Rusty.”  Such portraits bare the soul of the subject and evoke reflection and wonder in the viewer.

In his Red Ribbon-winning abstract landscape, “Meadow’s Edge,” Ralph Malloy shows his mastery of tight composition and color.  Was he painting plein air near his home in Cedar City when he created this scene?   Watch for more of Ralph’s fine work in coming months.

The Mesquite Fine Arts Gallery is located at 15 West Mesquite Blvd, Mesquite Nevada, open Monday-Saturday 10a-4p, with extended hours on Tuesdays in December.  The Gallery is recognized by the Nevada Arts Council and NEA Art Works as a leader in the artistic community of Nevada, providing art education, recreation, and beauty for the region.  Phone 702-346-1338 during business hours, or see www.mesquitefineartscenter.com or Facebook.
