It’s become one of the most popular community events in Mesquite and the hundreds that came out for the annual Community Thanksgiving Dinner on Wednesday, Nov. 25 enjoyed the food and the company.
The tradition of serving a free turkey dinner with all the trimmings continued this year at the Community Senior Center with city officials pitching in to help. Mesquite Mayor Al Litman was at the door to greet all who came, young and old. Councilman Rich Green and Councilwoman Cindi Delaney served everyone at the table while they visited with old and new friends.
Councilmen George Rapson and Geno Withelder were busy in the kitchen loading plates with turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy along with the Senior Center staff and close to 100 volunteers who also helped make the dinner festive and fun.
“Year after year our sponsors have helped us to maintain the customary level of service and able to keep the regular dinner hours that patrons are accustomed to. Without their support, help and generosity, this dinner would not have been possible. On behalf of the City of Mesquite Department of Athletics & Leisure Services, Senior Division, we would like to extend our deepest gratitude to all of them for their support year after year. Thank you for making this dinner one of the most successful events of the year,” remarked Nick Montoya, Director of Athletics & Leisure Services Dept.
