When Larry LeMieux was asked six years ago to put together a community Christmas concert he said, “Sure.”  He thought he had enough talented friends to gather a nice group of entertainers for the Mesquite audience to enjoy and he was right.

When he addressed the audience on Dec. 5 to open the sixth annual Christmas show he said, “over the years I’ve found a lot more talented friends along the way.”, and he was right again.  Many of the local community groups found the time to spread some very entertaining Christmas cheer.  LeMieux, accompanied by his wife Ava, even graced the stage with some fancy footwork that the Mesquite audience has grown fond of as he implored her to stay to the tune of ‘Baby it’s Cold Outside’.

Men pleading for women to stay seemed to rule the night when John Norwig took Marcia Swider sweeping across the stage while begging her to ‘Baby Please Come Home’.

The Desert Dames Half Notes, Grace Notes, Janet McDonald, The Treble Makers and the Sun City Sounds rocked the house with some Christmas classics while the Mesquite United Methodist Church Choir let the whole audience know that if you braved Grandma’s baking you may end up with a belly ache or worse with ‘Grandma’s Killer Fruitcake.’

The Wursten Family, Doc Nielsen and the Kessells sang of Angels and Country Christmases while the Virgin Valley Theatre Group rounded out the evening with comedic skits written by Matt McDonald and Jenna Grubb.

The evening nearly came to an abrupt end when that ‘nasty, wasty skunk’ the Grinch swooped down the aisle and stole Christmas. The evening was saved however when the Glory Girls sang out, ‘Let It Snow’ and banished the Grinch to their ‘Winter Wonderland.’

All-in-all Larry LeMieux and the Greater Mesquite Arts Foundation put together the Sixth Annual Community Christmas Show with a group of great entertainers who gave several hundred Mesquite audience members a festive kick-start to their holiday season.
