The annual Mesquite Chamber of Commerce Black and White Holiday Gala attracted over 140 business and community leaders for installation of the 2016 officers and directors and for announcing the Business of the Year and Volunteers of the Year.

The Dec. 5 event was held at the Eureka Casino Resort and gave the community an opportunity come together and celebrate a positive year in Mesquite for business and the Chamber.

The Eureka Casino Resort was given the Business of the Year award for their community support during 2015.  Accepting the award on behalf of the company were Ryan Yost and Janet Perez.  Yost told the crowd that “I am proud to be part of a company that is so committed to the community.”

Volunteer of the Year Award was presented to the Chamber’s Marketing Committee members Jeff Powell, Cindy Biskup and Helen Houston Creamer.

The incoming chair of the Chamber will be Noel Smith of Colonial Properties who also headed the nominating committee.

New board members for 2016 are Dave Ballweg, LoadTec; Dave Bennett, Fidelity National Title Company; Roberta Franco, Salvation Army; Jayne Kendrick, I.L. Kendrick Accounting, Kathy Lee, View on Mesquite and View of Southern Utah and Kathy Poindexter, Mesquite Local News and Mesquite Clean Air.

Returning board members are Keith Buchhalter, Overton Power District; Nancy Hewett, Wolf Creek and Coleyne Angel, Have Boutique, Will Travel.

Outgoing chair Ken Cook was given a standing ovation for his work during the last year in reorganizing the Chamber.  Cook said that “This is a very strong group of directors and I am confident that they will continue to build upon the Chamber’s very successful year.”  Cook also recognized Mayor Al Litman for attending nearly every ribbon cutting and most all Chamber events, “I don’t believe any previous mayor has attended our events so often.”  Also recognized by Cook were State Representative Chris Edwards, and City Councilors Cindy Delaney and Rich Green.

The new board joins recently appointed Director of Chamber Administration Brenda Snell at the Chamber offices located in the Bank of Nevada building, 11 W Pioneer Blvd Suite C in Mesquite.
