Even though the total number of visitors coming to Mesquite in September was the lowest number of the year at 86,689 it took a sizeable leap from last year’s count of 78,450 jumping up 10.5 percent. And the number is up 16,000 from just two years ago.
Only one category included in September’s Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority’s report was in the red – Gross Gaming Revenue. It fell $142,000 or 1.7 percent from $8.283 million in September 2014 to $8.141 million this year.
Overall, gaming revenues in Mesquite are still in the black for the year-to-date tally, up 1.8 percent at $84.989 million from this time last year.
Total Occupancy of hotel rooms rose 5.9 percent to 65.4 percent from last year’s 59.5 percent. The Average Daily Room Rate also rose in September by 3.1 percent to $54.26 compared to $52.63 in September 2014.
One of the most important indicators of the success in the Mesquite tourism industry is the Revenue Per Available Room or RevPAR which rose a whopping 13.3 percent from September 2014 when it was $31.31 to $35.49 this year.
Total Room Nights Occupied also increased 8.1 percent to 33,472 in September. Last year the number stood at 30,970.
Average Daily Auto Traffic on I-15 through Mesquite jumped 22.2 percent from a year ago hitting 24,758 vehicles each day. While September’s percentage increase is the biggest this year, the LVCVA report shows a steady monthly increase in the daily vehicle count over the last 13 months.
Mesquite’s sister city to the south, Laughlin had a great September in almost every category measured in the LVCVA report. Visitor Volume rose 2.8 percent, Average Daily Room Rate for hotels jumped 15.6 percent, RevPAR rose 14.5 percent and Total Room Nights Occupied increased 4.8 percent. The only dip came in Total Occupancy rates which fell a miniscule 0.6 percent.
Laughlin’s Gross Gaming Revenue jumped up 7.9 percent this September compared to last year coming in at $37.119 million.
Las Vegas Visitor Volumes increased 6 percent from September 2014 coming in at 3.545 million people. Citywide occupancy rates reached 89.9 percent according to the LVCVA report.
Gross Gaming Revenues for all of Clark County increased 1.3 percent in September from last year. The Las Vegas Strip gaming revenues were up 2 percent, Downtown revenues jumped 9.3 percent while the Boulder Strip gross gaming fell 5.5 percent.
Average Daily Auto Traffic on all major highways in the Las Vegas metropolitan area increased 9.1 percent with a 9.6 percent increase on I-15 at the Nevada California border.
