The skyrocketing upward trend in July and August building permits issued by the City of Mesquite slowed down in September, especially in the number of new single family residences.
Each of the summer months saw permit valuations hitting over $5 million. In September, the dollar value of all permits came in at $3.532 million. That’s an increase of only $500,000 from September 2014.
Fourteen permits for single family homes were issued in September worth $3.093 million. That’s two less permits than a year ago when 16 were valued at $2.708 million. Pulte Homes took out eight permits for new construction in Sun City Mesquite while NRC took three new home permits. Maves Construction, Western Construction, and Catamount Development each took one permit for new single family homes.
On the positive side, residential modifications permits more than doubled from last year, rising from eight to 18. Most of them were for outdoor awnings and pergolas.
The city issued eight new business permits in September compared to four in September 2014. They include a reflexologist, a new HVAC business, and Skinsational Salon.
One demolition permit was issued for work at the old Mesquite Star that’s undergoing renovation work commissioned by the owners of the Eureka Casino Resort.
Ten permits were issued for block walls this year compared to only five last year. Block wall permits are usually an indication of future new home construction work.
Swimming pool permits fell from six in September 2014 to only two this year.
Overall, the city has issued 785 building permits through the end of September with a total valuation of $32.389 million. At this point in 2014, the city had issued 627 permits worth $29.244 million.
