Sunday brought in several strong storm cells that pounded Southern Nevada, as well as the rest of the state, causing motorists to experience delays in their travels.

Most notably, was the delay in traffic on both northbound and southbound I-15 between Mesquite and Las Vegas that saw an extreme amount of rain and hail, resulting in flooding and mud debris across the roadway, making it impassable until crews could clear it. Traffic was at a standstill for nearly an hour.

According to Nevada Department of Transportation Public Information Officer Tony Illia, I-15 is now clear and traffic is flowing normally. The same goes for the Valley of Fire’s Exit 73, which had also been shut down Sunday night due to the flooding.

At this time, most roads affected by the storm have reopened.

However, travelers trying to get to Reno from Las Vegas will need to seek an alternate route, as US 95 is closed near Beatty at this time.

We will post more information and a full statement as it is available from NDOT.

U.S. 95 North from S.R. 160 to Tonopah Closed Due to Industrial Fire

LAS VEGAS, NEV. – U.S. Highway 95 was closed at 9 a.m., October 18, near Beatty due to flooding. Stormwater deposited mud, rocks and debris on the roadway. Nevada Department of Transportation maintenance crews cleared the road, opening one lane of traffic with a pilot car operation around 6:30 p.m. However, the road was reclosed at 7 p.m. due to an industrial fire at U.S. Ecology. The state has since established an Emergency Operations Center. The highway remained closed until further notice. U.S. 93 is a suggested alternate route.
