YEH NARROWLY BEATS NEW COMMER SCHOLL

The MMGA rapped up its summer tour of non- mesquite golf courses this past week. Last week new member Rick Scholl played twice with his new association. At Coral Canyon on the front nine Yeh appeared a little nervous as he shot an uncommon 41 to the rookie’s one under par 35. On the finishing side Scholl kept his composure shooting a 42 but Yeh couldn’t seem to take advantage of Scholl mistakes and shot a 45 for a totally unusual Yeh game and lost 77-86. Welcome to the MMGA, Rick, and continue to play well. Well Yeh would have nothing to do with this defeat and today went out at Sky Mt to prove that he is still in charge. This time it was Yeh sending the message with a two under par 34 on the first nine while Scholl struggled which included a triple bogey to shoot 41. Scholl settled down on the back with 39 but it was not enough as Yeh shot even par 36 for a total 70 to Scholl’s 79. This could be the start of some good competition for years to come. Hal Rundle continued his hot winning streak with an 85 to win low net honors with a 73 to beat Manny Lira (100) on the second hdcp hole. Ed Hoepfner (85) came in third with a net 75. Followed by Dave Jordan (84) and net 76. The fifth spot went Neil Hendricks (88) and a 77 and Tim Bergstrom grabbed 6th place with his 78. Congratulations to Bergstrom it is rumored that this is his first ever monetary prize and he is having it framed to hang over his fireplace.

OLD RIVAL BEATS YEH ON THE RIVER

The last travelling day of the summer took the MMGA to Sun River where an old and new rivalry was played out under ideal conditions. The threesome of Paul LeVan. Andrew Yeh and Dave Jordan played a very competitive round. After the first nine holes Jordan came in with an even par round of 35, LeVan and Yeh were four strokes higher at 39. Jordan kept the pressure on Yeh until the par five 15th where LeVan and Yeh both reached the green in two. Jordan was off the green some 60 feet from the stick where he coolly chipped in for a “super” eagle three. “The boys were not to happy with that chip in” Jordan remarked at the end of the day. Yeh didn’t quit, shooting a one over 37, but that eagle on 15 was too much to overcome. Ben Bishop scored a solid round of 84 to take home first place low net with 67. One shot back was new member Rick Scholl who had his own solid round of 38-38-76 and a net 68 to win second lowl net . Tim Bergstrom this day was able to find the fairway and recorded an 82 and was rewarded third low net at 69. There was a four way tie for 4th low net between Terry Springer (77), Bubba Petrick (80), Ken Ward (81) and Dan Trower (92). Springer grabbed that 4th place going bogey, par. Trower won 5th with bogey, bogey par. And Ward beat out Petrick for the last position when Petrick double bogeyed the first hdcp hole.

The next scheduled play is Tuesday, October 6th at 8:00 at Falcon Ridge and Thursday Oct 8th at the CasaBlanca at 8:00. Always check your sig up sheets for any corrected times or places. Anyone interested in joining the MMGA can call 346-6363.  Also check out our website at www.mesquitemensgolf.com.
