It looked like a blowout early for the Virgin Valley High School Bulldog volleyball squad as they won the first two sets easily 25-18 and 25-14. The Pirates roared back to the delight of their huge fan base winning the next two sets 25-17 and 25-20 tying the match at two sets apiece. The huge crowd, roared at every point in the fifth and deciding set, which the Dawgs won 15-10 giving them the 3-2 win over their archrivals.

The Dawgs were never challenged after they took their first lead at 6-5 in the opening set. Lady Dawgs Bernice Fiso and Kaydee Bingham took the game over with five and six kills respectively to bury the Pirates. Fiso finished with two kills to end the first set with the Dawgs on top 25-18.

The second set was a mirror image of the first as the Pirates jumped out to a 4-1 advantage. Bingham woke up her teammates with a big kill, which led to a 17 point onslaught by the Ladies for an 18-4 advantage. Fiso had 13 service points during the rally and finished the Pirates with a huge kill at match point and a 24-14 Bulldog victory. At this point of the match most fans felt it would be an easy Bulldog victory, but not the Pirate players as they roared back to take the next two sets handily.

The Lady Dawgs showed the fans why they are still in first place in 1-A Sunrise League play defeating the Pirates 15-10 for the 3-2 win. Bernice Fiso led the Dawgs with 16 kills, 5 aces and 19 digs. Kaydee Bingham added 11 kills and Emma Barnum had an all-around good game with 9 kills, 18 digs and three huge blocks. Setter Janella Fiso set her teammates up with 41 assists. The win keeps the Dawgs in first place with a 9-0 record as last year’s champ Boulder City comes to town with an 8-1 record on Monday, Oct.19.
