The Virgin valley High School boy soccer team played their best full game of the season Friday afternoon holding the second best team in 1-A Sunrise Conference play, Desert Pines to zero goals for 74 minutes of the match. The Dawgs and the Jaguars battled equally for the first 40 minutes of play with neither team reaching goal. Each team had five shots on goal in the first half. Bulldog forward Moises Medina had three shots on goal that were saved by the Jaguars goalkeeper. “We’ve preached team effort all year,” said interim Bulldog Coach Sean FitzSimons. “You are playing the best overall game of the year,” he added at halftime.

The Bulldogs began the second half of play with the same intensity as the first. Medina had a good shot at goal 8 minutes in but his shot was negated by a great save from the Jaguars goalkeeper. “Bulldogs playing their heart out,” uttered Coach FitzSimons from the sideline. Medina struck goal 8 minutes later on an unassisted run giving the Dawgs a 1-0 lead. The Dawgs strong aggressive play seemed to confuse the Jaguars as the Dawgs controlled both sides of the field. The Dawgs only mistake of the game came with six minutes remaining as the Jaguars struck goal with five head passes in the box area tying the match. The Dawgs had the opportunity to win on a corner kick but the Bulldog head shot hit the crossbar. The Dawgs record went to 2-6-2 in league and 6-7-2 overall. They travel to TECH on Oct.20 and host Del Sol on the Oct.22.
