Bulldog soccer guys sink Pirates 7-0 keep Rivals Cup

The Virgin Valley High School boy soccer team continued their dominance of archrival Moapa Valley High School Pirates Monday night, Oct. 26 at the Mesquite Sports and Events Center winning easily 7-0. The win keeps the Rival Cup trophy in the Virgin Valley for another year.

Bulldog star forward Moises Medina got the ball rolling striking goal 8 minutes into the match on an assist from Pedro Osuna. Roman Perez, normally guarding goal, was moved to a mid-field position due to a shortage of players and scored goal four minutes later giving the Dawgs an early 2-0 lead. Medina would get the ‘Hat Trick’ (3 goals) before the half time whistle blew.

Reserve Sabastian Rodriguez finished the first half scoring hitting goal at the 38 minute mark. Assisting, on the goals were David Cabrera, with two assists and Perez with one.

The second half was mop up time for the Dawgs as they worked for the shutout. Medina would get his fourth goal of the match 63 minutes in and fellow senior Orlando Diaz scored his first career goal to end the scoring at 7-0. Emmanuel Navarro assisted on Medina’s goal. Hayden Johnson registered the shutout.

It was the last home game of the season for the Dawgs as they travel to Boulder City on Wednesday. Oct. 28. The soccer guys league record went to 3-8-2 and 7-9-2 overall.

Medina ended the game with 60 career goals as a four year starter for the Dawgs. “I hate to leave my team,” said Medina. “But I am excited about a possible scholarship from Dixie College. Hopefully I will join my brother Gabby there (Dixie) and continue to play soccer with him. The season was disappointing, but I need to remain focused, keeping my grades up and staying in shape. I’m thinking about going out for the track team this year.”

Listen up track coach Gary Hartman, Medina is a fine young man who can help the Bulldog track program.
