“The kids are excited to play football and they are excelling past our expectations,” said Nick Montoya, Head Coach.  “It just never gets old, and I’m excited to see if we can keep this going and watch the team succeed.”

The young Dogs came out very focused and aggressive on Saturday and took an early 6-0 lead after a great run by Mason Montoya (QB) the team went for two and the pass from Montoya to Koby Perry (TE) the ball was in and out of his hands. The Dogs put up another 6 points before the half after a sustained drive of Decker Lee and Reece Leavitt pounding the ball to the goal line.

“I feel the key to our success is our defense,” said Montoya.  “The kids gave nothing up today. The defense gave up one big play and they got past the 50 yard line one time during the game, we stopped them on a 4 and out as they tightened up with the leadership of Anson Hollingshead, Maverick Ludvigson and Isaac Johnson at the linebacker position, just before the half was huge and really set the tone for the second half.”

The second half was dominated by the defense again with Bowen Mendenhall and Brenton Jolley not giving anything up around the ends, with no scores being put on the board.  Their offensive is very explosive and the key is the Offensive line consisting of Daxton Noel leading the way at Center; Cameron Rivera and Brandon Perkins at Tackles; and Anson Hollingshead and Jonathon Haderlie at Guards. It was a bitter sweet win as it was Haderlie’s last game with the team as he is moving soon. At the beginning of the game the kids wanted to win the game for him as for a present to him.

“I want to thank the other coaches and the parents for all the time they put in and the help the parents give at the games,” said Montoya. “Coaches Jeramy Mendanhall, Justin Ludvigson and Jared Johnson; what a great group we have from parents to coaches. We also want to thank the Board for their support.”

The youngsters have a week off as it’s their bye week, they will be back in action on September 19 against a formidable Canyon View team. The game will be at the Mesquite Sports and Event Complex at 10:15 a.m. at field # 1. There will be all the teams from Mesquite playing that day, so come and support the BULLDOGS!!!
