ANOTHER WEEK  IN  ST  GEORGE

The MMGA began their annual Mesquite “Over Seed” travels to St George.  This week started with a visit to the beautiful Sky Mt. scenic course.  Whoever said, they call this area “hurricane” for a reason was wrong for the 12th straight year.  The scenery was spectacular, the weather ideal and they even got an extra treat witnessing the start of a wild fire up in the mountains.  Andrew Yeh led the group again recording five birdies in the first ten holes for a one under par 35 on the front and added a one over par 37 on the back for 72.  Dave Jordan and Bubba Petrick were only eight shots back at 80.  Terry Gardner (87) and Tom Durenberger (81) tied for first place low net at 68.  Durenberger earned the first place parring the first handicap hole to Gardner’s bogey.  Hal Rundle with 81 and a nice one over par 37 on the front earned third place low net 69.    Joel Reilly (83) and Dan Trower (90) were tied for 4th until Trower’s bogey on the second hdcp hole dropped Reilly into fifth.  Bubba Petrick had the “Yeh-dicous” shot of the day.  On the par four 14th Petrick’s drive landed in the bunker some 110yds from the green.  He somehow hit his PW to within four feet of the cup where a slightly miss read break cost him a double “junk”.

The track continues today playing at the Ledges of Valderra.  Without Andrew Yeh the field was wide open to see who would become medalist in Yeh’s absence even the forward tee players were in the hunt.  The outcome was not as expected.  Normal challengers fell by the wayside.  And a quiet unassuming Hal Rundle shot 42 on the front and opened the back side with a nice birdie two on the par three 10th.  He would rack up three straight pars after 10 and finish par, par to shoot two over par 38 on the back for a total medalist score of 80.  Joel Reilly shot a steady 44-45-89 for a net 70 and was awarded first place low net by parring  the 9th hole while fellow player Gary Denhalter (87) and also a net 70 bogeyed for second place.  Ed Hoepfner with the second lowest gross score of 82 finished in third place low net with a net 71.  Terry Gardner (89) rapped up the fourth low net at 72.
