Eureka’s 2015, 3rd annual, Rod Run, sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, was held at the Eureka Casino over Labor Day Weekend. This year Mesquite residents were treated to 47 classic and current show-worthy automobiles. Plaques were awarded to the top 25 cars which were chosen by Eureka employees with one overall “Top” choice which was chosen by the Eureka’s “Top Dog”, Greg Lee.

Participants in Eureka’s 2015, 3rd annual, Rod Run, sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, received one free raffle ticket upon entry and could purchase other tickets as well for a chance to win this brand new 350 Craig motor.

Classic cars lined the parking lot at the Eureka Casino for their 2015, 3rd annual, Rod Run which was sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association. Automobiles ranged in year from a 1923 to 2014. Mesquite residents were treated to 47 vehicles that many owners were proud to pop the hood to let everyone check out just what makes those motors hum.

Mike Wilde, St. George Fire Rescue worker and local Mesquite resident, jokingly told the MLN that he built his repair kit right into the motor of his 1947 Rat Rod. Wilde said, “If anything ever goes wrong, I’ll just pull the pin and start over!” Wilde’s 1947 Rat Rod was one of two entered into the Eureka’s 3rd annual Rod Run which was sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association.

The lady in the yellow truck seems to be keeping a keen eye on both vehicles especially this bright yellow 1923 Ford Model T owned by Joe Gibbs and was one of the Eureka’s 3rd annual Rod Run sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, top 25 picks for 2015.

Local Mesquite Resident Mike Wilde enters his 1947 Rat Rod in approximately 30 auto shows a year. Wilde says he drives his truck everywhere he goes and it has not ever been trailered. Most recently Wilde’s truck won “People’s Choice Best of Show” in the Enterprise, Utah Corn Festival car show and “Best Pin Stripping” in a Las Vegas show.

Several of the classic automobiles at the Eureka Casino’s 3rd annual Rod Run sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, had some very funky custom features like these 6 inch, spiked lug nuts on local resident, Mike Wilde’s, 1947 Rat Rod. Wilde admits to slashing his calf three times on these spikes and although he first wished they were longer is now glad that they are only 6 inches.

While some of the classic car enthusiasts preferred to gaze at the exterior beauty of the classic automobiles or the listen to the rumble of the engines, these smaller car gazers, Maddie Wilde and Aubrey Deal, preferred the kooky and more whimsical interior of Mike Wilde’s 1947 International K2 Pickup more commonly referred to as a “Rat Rod”.

Several of the 47 automobiles entered into the Eureka’s 2015 Rod Run, sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, had the same owner such as this 1962 Studebaker GT owned by Tom and Jayne Fulton. The Studebaker did not take one of the top 25 prizes but the Fulton’s other classic vehicles, a 1964 ½ Mustang and 1930 Model A both took home a top 25 plaque.

The Eureka’s 2015 Rod Run, sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, entry #3, a 1947 Mercury also owned by Tom and Jayne Fulton, was a perfect example of a classic convertible beauty but did not take home a top 25 prize.

Of course no Rat Rod is ever fully complete without the beer-keg-gas-tank, a shot gun, a rattle snake and a scary guy who’s got your back and appears to be well equipped and ready for action. It’s an all-American set up as evidenced by the flag on Lyle Huff’s 1949 version. It sure was a winner according to the Eureka employees who voted on their top 25 favorites at the Eureka Casino’s 3rd annual Rod Run, sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, which was held Labor Day weekend 2015.

Eureka’s 3rd annual Rod Run, sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, was attended by people far and near. Mesquite resident Rick McDonald entered his Batmobile style” Slingshot” which is a 3-wheeled open air cockpit vehicle with a manual 5-speed transmission and seating for 2. McDonald’s intent is to have fun with his vehicle and entering it in his first car show is just the beginning. McDonald says all the children in Mesquite should all be on the lookout for the “Batman” to be driving his “Batmobile” right into Trunk-or-Treat this year.

Glenda Goodwin isn’t afraid to compete with any gear head with her 1938 Chevy in “Porsche Indian Red” and was proud to take home a top 25 prize in the Eureka’s 2015, 3rd annual, Rod Run, sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, which was held over Labor Day Weekend.

Lyle Huff’s 1949 Rat Rod one of the two Rat Rods chosen as a top 25 pick of Eureka’s 2015, 3rd annual Rod Run sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, which was held at the Eureka Casino over Labor Day Weekend. Huff’s Rat Rod is fully customized with details like horse-shoe hinges on the hood, a rusty exterior and spider-web doors and grill complete with spiders and a miniature ghoul leading the way which enhances the personality of the vehicle.

Classic automobiles like this 1969 Ford Mach 1 Mustang, owned by Kim Barr, could be seen all over Mesquite this past Labor Day weekend fueling up for the Eureka’s 2015, 3rd annual, Rod Run sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association. Barr’s Mustang was chosen as one of the top 25 this year.

Speaking of views, this lady declined to give her name or submit to an interview but she did hang around for the duration of the 3rd annual Eureka Rod Run, sponsored by the Boulder City Cruisin Association, and seemed to be keeping an eye on Joe Gibbs 1923 Ford Model T parked right next to her. As a matter of fact, the automobile she’s sitting in belongs to the same fella…do you suppose she might be Mrs. Gibbs?

Mike Wilde’s 1947 Rat Rod was decorated more toward the literal side of the classic truck’s name. On Wilde’s K2 pickup, Rusty, the welded metal mouse, has the front row seat with the windiest view.
