During the Sep 8 City Council meeting, Councilmember Kraig Hafen introduced an agenda item to appoint an individual and an alternate to serve as the City of Mesquite’s representative on the Clark County School District Technical Advisory Committee.  The item was tabled to the Sep. 22 meeting in order to allow interested members of the public to submit an application to serve on the committee.

During the 2015 Legislative Session, the Nevada Legislature enacted AB394, which created an Advisory Committee for the purposes of developing a plan to reorganize the Clark County School District into local school precincts no later than the 2018-2019 school year. This committee will also study the distribution of federal, state and local funds and the impact of local school precincts on public school financing.

In an effort to provide support to the Advisory Committee, the bill also created a technical advisory committee, which will provide expertise, input, advice and assistance to the Advisory Committee. The City of Mesquite must appoint a representative and an alternate to serve on the Technical Advisory Council.  Individuals serving on the committee will not receive any compensation for their service.
