It seems hard to believe when our daytime temperatures are in the high 90s and low 100s that we’re entering into cooler fall weather. The days will be beautifully pleasant and our nights will begin to have that autumn chill about them… just right for Mesquite Rotary Club’s 9th Annual Glow In The Dark Golf Ball Drop and Chili Cookoff.

Saturday, Oct. 24 is the date of this year’s fun and you are invited to enter your favorite chili recipe in this year’s competition.  Red, green, meatless or whatever that family favorite recipe calls for, why not show off your culinary skills with your best tasting chili and a chance to win the title of “Mesquite’s Best Chili.”

“This has been a fun addition to our annual fundraiser,” noted organizer Jake Noll. “Our local non-profits, police and fire dept. personnel have always entered the best chili recipes ever.  It’s a big hit and the people’s choice winner will walk away with $100 cash.  Last year’s winning cook-off entry was made by Rory Ruble,” Noll added.

Activities for the Golf Ball Drop begin at 3:00 pm in the parking lot behind the Eureka Casino Resort.  In addition to the chili cook-off there will be an art contest for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade students, a car show, face painting for the kids, and the dropping of glowing golf balls at 6:30 pm.  The first ball to land in each of 10 holes wins prizes donated by local businesses, and the 1st place grand prize of $1,000 cash will go to one very lucky winner whose ball lands in Hole #1.

Tickets for a chance to win are $20 each or 6 for $100 and may be purchased from any Mesquite Rotarian.  Hot dogs, nachos, soft drinks and water will be available to purchase along with bowls of chili while it lasts.
