The Western High School Warriors had no answer for the Virgin Valley High School Bulldogs ground game Friday night as the Dawgs scored 8 touchdowns from six different running backs in the first half of play to win easily 56-6. The Dawg Pound roared with delight as tailback Cody Jones ripped off a 35 yard gallop for six points two minutes into the game. The run was set up by a Warrior fumble recovered by Garret Hafen on the Warriors 40 yard line. The second Bulldog possession was all Josh Bishop as scampered for 58 yards on three straight carries going 32 yards on the last for six points. Cesar Zarate added the point after both touchdowns in the quarter. “We knew we could run against them,” said Bulldog Coach Yori Ludvigson. “We threw only one pass in the game. With quarterback Hogan Fowles on the sideline we stuck to the run.” The period ended with the Dawgs up 14-0.

Bulldog Marlan Felshaw fell on a Warrior fumble on the 32 yard line setting up another Jones scamper into the end zone. The point after failed, giving the Dawgs a 20-0 lead at 9:42 of the second period. The Bulldog six in the box defense swarmed the Warriors all night forcing an interception by Jones on the Warriors 17 yard line. Jones didn’t waste any time running it in for six points. The Dawgs went for two points with Jayden Perkins taking it in upping the Dawgs lead to 28-0 The flood gates were open as Kai Mitchell got the chance to show his stuff as he carried five times on the Dawgs next possession, going the final 32 yards for the score and a Bulldog 35-0 lead with 3:31 remaining in the second period. Diminutive backs Jarett Tietjen and Marcelo Lara were up next scooting for 38 and 12 yard touchdown runs. Tietjen’s run was a thing of beauty as he juked a Warrior defensive back out of his shoes to score around left end. Defensive lineman Arden Bundy put an exclamation mark on the Bulldogs outstanding first half by forcing a fumble with 14 seconds remaining in the half rambling in for a final Bulldog T.D. and a 56-0 first half advantage.

The second half was short and sweet as league rules caused a running clock to prevail due to the overwhelming Bulldog advantage. A bad snap by the Bulldog reserves and a face mask penalty gave the Warriors the only T.D. of the second half of play. The final score found the Dawgs up 56-6. “We blocked well for our backs and our defense controlled the game,” said Coach Ludvigson.” It will be a battle in the trenches against Del Sol.” The Dawgs travel to Las Vegas next Friday to face the 0-2 Dragons in the Sunrise League opener. The senior laden Dragons have not been able to get an offensive attack going in their two losses.
