Defense was the key in Friday’s soccer match between Virgin Valley High and Chaparral High.

The Lady Dawgs dominated the offensive side of the ball shooting on goal 17 times, to the Cowboys four attempts.

The Dawgs managed to put two into the net, one by Marlene Quiarte three minutes into the game and one by Karla Correa at the 34 minute mark of the first half making the score 2-0 in the Dawgs favor.

The second half was a defensive struggle by both squads as the Cowboys bent but held their own in the net shutting down the Dawgs offense. The Dawgs had numerous chances on goal but couldn’t follow up their shots. Bulldog Spencer Green had four saves and pitched her second shutout in a row. The Lady Dawgs host Desert Pines today in an important league game.

The Dawgs are still missing scoring machine Abby Barnum who is out with an injury.
