Gerald “Jerry” Richard Baldwin, retired United States Navy Veteran of Mesquite, Nevada, passed away at home surrounded by loved ones, on June 12, 2015 after a short battle with pancreatic cancer at the age of 76.
Gerald was born on September 19, 1938 in Afton, Wyoming to the late Oliver F. Baldwin and Kathaleen M. Orme; also preceded in death by his brother, Bobby Baldwin and grandson, Charles Slone.
He served in the United States Navy for 20 years as a Gunners Mate. He was an OTR truck driver for over 20 years earning an award for 1 million safe miles driven.
He is survived by the love of his life, Sonia Cherco of Illinois; brother, Frank Baldwin of Washington; sister Lois Ann Shedden and her husband Albert Shedden of Wyoming; daughters, Lakrissha Spence and her husband Larry Spence of Kansas, Lee Black of Washington and Bambi Baldwin of Washington; niece, Carmen Dean and her husband Mike Dean of California; granddaughter Danielle Meissner and her husband Matthew Meissner of Nevada; grandsons, Donald Slone of Nebraska and Austin Black of Washington; great-granddaughters, Savannah Meissner, Caroline Meissner and Charlotte Meissner of Nevada, many more family and friends.
His love of life and friendly smile will be sorely missed by his family and friends. A “Celebration of Life” luncheon will take place on August 15, 2015 from 1-3 p.m. at the Mesquite Senior Center in Mesquite. Jerry was such a sweet man. He was so patient when we’d bring the summer camp kids in to swim and they would be yelling and splashing. I’d always apologize and he would just smile and tell me a wonderful story about his grandchildren. He will be missed around the recreation center.
Thank you Nicole! My grandpa spoked about many people that he was fond with at the recreation center. He was truly a great story teller. He is most definitely missed.
