Annual Golf Tournament Grows Beyond Expectation; Raises nearly $20k

Last Saturday’s 10th Annual Mesquite Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament turned out to be more successful than anyone had anticipated. With 124 registered golfers, the preliminary numbers look at reaching nearly $20,000 raised for the Chamber.

“While the final numbers aren’t in yet,” said Jeff Powell, “we raised significantly more money this year than last year due to the generosity of our major sponsors, exceeding the number of hole sponsors and the high-dollar value of the raffle prizes.” Those prizes Powell mentioned were all valued anywhere from $120 to $900 each.

Another area of improvement for the tournament this year was the shortened time of play needed for the event. In years past, the entire function would last around eight hours. With the help of Travis McDowell and his crew at Conestoga Golf Course and the many volunteers working the event, most of the groups competing were finished within four and a half hours.

“We received numerous compliments from the players, stating that this was the Best Chamber of Commerce Golf Tournament they had played or participated in,” Powell added.

Prizes for the competition were donated by other local golf courses. Tournament winners representing Farmers Insurance, Bill Mitchell Agency: Bill Mitchell, Chad Klein, Jeff Jacobson and Bob Ault, took first place for the day.

Second place was taken by Print Management Services Team #2 consisting of Terry Luzier, Kelly Peterson, Doug Bardsley and Josh White.

Third place was grasped by Dixie Ophthalmic Specialists representatives Jason Ahee, Ben Lindquist, Eric Drake and Trevor Johnson.

All three teams received golf packages from Conestoga Golf Course.

Other winners for the day included Longest Drivers Trevor Johnson and Leslie Adamson who both won packages from Wolf Creek.

Doug Bardsley and Liz Ettie took the awards for Closest to the Pin, earning packages from Falcon Ridge Golf Course.

“The event would not have been a success without the dedication and hard work of the Golf Committee: Cindy Biskup, Chairperson, Jeff Powell and Merri Erickson,” said Ken Cook, Mesquite Chamber of Commerce Chairman. “This was a small but very effective committee, focusing on the business of the event and setting an example of cooperation and collaboration.”

Cook added one more summation to the results of the tournament stating that “More importantly, however, the event generated countless intangibles such as re-energizing the Chamber membership, celebrating our local businesses success, and providing a platform for networking and breaking down some barriers.

This was a well-planned, well-executed event designed to help our Chamber member businesses grow and prosper. The mere fact that so many businesses stepped up to be major sponsors, others provided generous raffle items, and numerous volunteers spent their time on the event, speaks volumes for the confidence this community has shown for the Chamber’s future.”
